Ukraine, Sri Lanka to open consulates in Kurdistan

Ukraine and Sri Lanka are due to open consulates in the Kurdistan Region, bringing the number of foreign representation offices in the Kurdistan Region to 38.

The foreign relations office of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) welcomed the decisions made by Ukraine and Sri Lanka to open their honorary consulates as a way to strengthen relations with these two countries in terms of economy, trade, and culture.

The decision to open the honorary consulates is part of the KRG’s policy of developing its relations with the international community, the statement added. The move received approval from the Iraqi federal government and the KRG.

Negotiations with Ukraine began last September. Sri Lanka expressed an interest in establishing relations with Kurdistan in 2013.
