Countdown to the opening of the border crossing of Trebil began

The Jordanian government announced on Sunday that the countdown to the opening of the border crossing began after the stability of the areas adjacent to the Jordanian border on both sides of Syria and Iraq, raising hopes for the reopening of the crossing, according to the Jordanian news agency Al-Ghad.
The report pointed out today (August 27, 2017) that the security unrest is stabilizing, and whenever this situation is confirmed, the issue of opening the border crossings, especially the Trebil and Jaber crossings, becomes more realistic than ever before, reviving the hopes of many economic sectors, Which have suffered significant losses over the past few years following the closure of these crossings.
He pointed out that the start of the countdown to the opening of the Trebil crossing comes after the Iraqi army resolved the battle of Mosul and defeat the organization “ISIS”, and clearing the international road to the Jordanian border, and also after the decline of the organization and near defeat in the battle of Tal Afar.
Jordanians and Iraqis are waiting for September to reopen the crossing to the flow of goods, which is an important breakthrough for Jordanian trade.
Jordanian exports to Iraq have dropped since July 2015, when the Da’ash organization controlled Anbar province by 63 percent, while exports to Syria have declined by 65 percent since the closure of the Gaber border post after the control of the opposition factions in 2015.
The head of the Iraqi Business Council in Jordan, Majid al-Saadi, confirmed in a press statement earlier that “the opening of the border crossing of Trebil between the Kingdom and Iraq beginning next September.”
“The opening of the Trebil crossing will be in the early days of September, under the auspices of Iraqi Prime Minister, Haider Abadi.”
Since July 2015, trade between Jordan and Iraq has been completely cut off by a tight control over these roads, hindering the flow of trade exchange between the two countries.
