Iran-Kurdistan Discuss Construction of Railway System

The Islamic Republic of Iran has demanded to extend its railway service to the Kurdistan Region, according to a statement by Kurdistan Region's Ministry of Transportation and Communications.

The statement published on Thursday said Iran has already begun talks over the project and recently Iranian Consul General to Erbil Morteza Abadi visited the ministry for this purpose.

Abadi has underlined that the project benefits both Iran and the Kurdistan Region for amplifying the volume of trade exchange and tourism between the two sides, according to the statement.

In response to the call, the ministry has indicated that the Kurdistan Region is in need of rail transport service.

The ministry has also voiced its willingness for participating in the project, provided that it is established on "the best, most needed and fastest" border entry to meet the needs of the public in the best way.

Currently there are no railway systems in Kurdistan.
