The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) urged the Iraqi Council of Representatives to expedite the completion of the selection of a new Council of Commissioners

The mission said in a statement received by al-Marbid, a copy of it, that ensuring the smooth transition and the continuation of the democratic process in Iraq comes through the acceleration of the House of Representatives to complete the selection of a new Board of Commissioners, noting that Law No. 11 of 2007 and in Article III requires members of the Board of Commissioners Competent, experienced and recognized for their competence, integrity and independence, taking into account the representation of women

The article 9 of the law stipulates that the formation of the Electoral Commission should be considered in order to achieve a balance in the representation of the Iraqi people's constituents pointing out that, inter alia, the Parliament encourages the representation of women and minorities in the new Board of Commissioners Elections and are consistent with Iraq's international obligations

UNAMI stressed that the choice of a comprehensive commission of commissioners would not only respond to the aspirations of millions of Iraqis but would also be an important step towards holding transparent and acceptable future elections

UNAMI expressed its willingness to continue to provide technical advice and support based on comparative global experiences on these important issues https://www.almirbad.com/news/view.aspx?cdate=22082017&id=61a5e15d-71e2-45cc-b916-9809802898ea
