The Kurdistan Electoral Commission invites the media and organizations to cover and monitor the referendum

The Independent Electoral Commission for the elections and the referendum in the Kurdistan region on Saturday called on civil society organizations to monitor the elections to visit its headquarters to register the names of observers for the referendum process of self-determination.

According to a UNHCR document obtained by Al-Ghad Press, "the review takes place from 20 August 2017 until 20 September 2017 for the purpose of registering the names to monitor the referendum process for the independence of Kurdistan, scheduled for 25 September 2017."

Another document pointed out that "the Commission requested the media to visit its headquarters or provincial offices from 21 August 2017 until 4 September 2017 for the purpose of registration in accordance with the instructions and controls of the Commission to monitor and cover the referendum process."

The Commission also called on political parties and entities to "review the headquarters or provincial offices from 19 August 2017 until 15 September 2017 for the purpose of providing the names of political entities observers to monitor the process of updating the voter register and elections and the referendum process for the independence of Kurdistan."

The Kurdistan region decided to hold a referendum to determine its own independence from Iraq or not on the twenty-fifth of next September, which was met with the rejection of political parties and the federal government in addition to regional and international rejection.
