Parliamentary health: severe penalties for anyone who assaults medical personnel


On Thursday, the Health and Environment Committee of the Parliament confirmed that amendments to the law on the protection of doctors were introduced to tighten the penalties imposed on anyone who attacks medical personnel.

"The committee has begun to amend the law to protect doctors, including the inclusion of medical personnel in the law, and the tightening of penalties and doubled against all those who attack medical personnel," the committee's chairman, Qutaiba al-Jubouri, told Al-Ghad Press.

He added that "the phenomenon of assault on medical personnel, has spread in recent times, through physical assault or clan separation and assassination operations against those cadres."

Al-Jubouri called on the government and the authority to "have a position on the attacks on medical personnel."

The number of attacks on medical personnel has risen dramatically in recent years. Doctors have been kidnapped and some of them have been assaulted in hospitals.
