Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Mahdi al-Qaisi on Wednesday, the intention of his ministry to reach the stage of self-sufficiency of wheat and barley crops for next year, noting that the decision of the Council of Ministers to pay the amounts of farmers and the liberation of Mosul and Kirkuk are the most important factors to increase production.

Al-Qaisi said in a press statement that "this year's rate of self-sufficiency is low compared to previous years and has reached about 50 percent of the local market," noting that "the decline is due to several reasons, first of which is the occupation of fertile agricultural areas such as Diyala, Mosul, Kirkuk, Religion in previous times as well as the government's failure to pay the dues of farmers for three years. "

Al-Qaisi added that "the ministry plans to produce about 4 million and a half million tons of wheat is the actual need for Iraq as well as the cultivation of barley after the decision of the Council of Ministers to hand over the amounts of farmers immediately after the arrival of wheat crop and delivery of seeds," noting that "the stability of Mosul and Salahuddin, Diyala and Kirkuk will contribute In increasing agricultural yields significantly because it is one of the most productive provinces of wheat and barley crops. "



Al-Qaisi called on the Ministry of Commerce to "increase the storage capacity of its stores for wheat and barley to receive all crops from farmers and expedite payment without delay."
