Baghdad is studying the investment of waste by energy production

Baghdad Municipality discussed with the Waste Management and Environment Improvement Committee the possibility of treating waste in an investment manner and using it to produce electricity.

The Secretariat, in a statement received by the "Economy News", said that "the Committee discussed during the second meeting of the Committee in the presence of the Undersecretary of the Secretariat of Baghdad for Municipal Affairs and Director General of the Department of solid waste and the environment and representatives of the Ministries of Health and Environment and Electricity and the Council of Ministers advisers to discuss the mechanisms of treatment and recycling of waste in the manner of investment, Specialized companies to treat waste in landfill sites in the manner of investment and use of the method of fermentation for the production of gas and the operation of engines for the generation of electricity and each (2000 to 2500) tons of waste produces about (10 megawatts) of electricity.

She added that "the Secretariat of Baghdad seeks through these projects to improve the environmental reality and improve the waste management sector according to what is used in the developed countries in a manner that leads to scientific protection integrated environment and in accordance with the directions of the government as these projects will reduce the costs of transport and landfill and waste treatment."

"The Turkish company Akzim completed (9) transformational plants within the project cost (26) billion dinars to collect the waste and put it in closed containers and transferred by specialized mechanisms to the sorting laboratories.

She pointed out that "several offers were submitted by the specialized companies to implement such projects through the investment," noting that "the secretariat of Baghdad called for the formation of a joint committee between the Secretariat of Baghdad and the relevant ministries and the Council of Counselors to submit recommendations to the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers for final approval of the preparation of The legal formula for initiating administrative procedures to implement such projects through investment. "
