The head of the Tigris operations, Major General Mizher al-Azzawi, announced on Wednesday the launch of a three-pronged military operation in the mountains and areas of Hamrin in Diyala, while stressing that the operation is joint and supported by the army and air force.


Al-Azzawi told Al-Ghad Press that "joint security forces from the army, police, popular and tribal groups, supported by the army and air force, launched this morning to carry out a large-scale military operation of three axes to track the cells of the mountains and areas of Hamrin, - Kirkuk north of Diyala and up to the bridge of Narin by the outskirts of the Karabah area north-east of the province. "


"The operation is aimed at chasing terrorists and ending the presence of cells in Diyala and preventing them from gaining a foothold in the province," he said. "The final results of the operation will be announced in the coming hours."

The Tigris operations had earlier announced the launch of large-scale military operations to clear the border areas of Diyala province of the cells.
