Bangladesh to Open Consular Office in Erbil



The Peoples' Republic of Bangladesh will open a consular office in the Kurdistan Region, according to Bangladeshi ambassador to Baghdad.

Abu Maqsud Furhad, Bangladesh's ambassador to Iraq met Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani on Sunday and voiced his country's intentions to open the office in Erbil.

The office is to promote the bilateral relations, the diplomat said.
He also passed Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina Wazed's regards to PM Barzani and expressed his country's willingness to assist the Kurdistan Region in the areas in which Bangladeshis have proficiency.

Many Bangladeshi nationals operate mainly in the service projects of the Kurdistan Region and the Bangladeshi ambassador thanked the KRG for offering the job opportunities for them.
PM Barzani also expressed his cabinet's willingness to buttress ties with Bangladesh.

He also suggested that a joint mechanism be set up by the Bangladesh and Kurdistan governments through Bangladesh Embassy in Baghdad so that Bangladeshi workers officially and through their government agencies enter Kurdistan.
