Egypt's premier to visit Iraq to reactivate joint economic council

A high-level Egyptian delegation, led by Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, will visit Baghdad to hold the first meeting of the Supreme Economic Coordination Council on August 10 after a long hiatus, Abbas al-Bayati, a member of the parliamentary foreign relations committee, revealed on Friday.

In a press statement, al-Bayati said that the delegation will include Egyptian ministers of finance and trade.

Reactivating the council will promote relations between the two countries in the political, investment, and trade fields, he added.
Egyptian exports to the Iraqi market recorded $470 million in 2015, compared to $782 million in 2014, in the sectors of electronics, food, agricultural, chemical and fertilizers products.

In November 2016, Egypt participated in the 43rd session of the Baghdad International Fair, where the Egyptian Trade Office signed $12 million worth of export contracts.
