If not for the position of Moscow in the Syrian war, the region would have been completely destroyed, former Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki told RIA Novosti on Sunday.

He further stated that without the Russian approach in Syria, which is different from the US' approach, the terrorists would have become more active and the map of the region would have changed.

This comes after Maliki arrived in Moscow on Sunday in a four-day working visit during which he plans to hold negotiations with President Vladimir Putin, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko, according to RIA Novosti.

Maliki said that during negotiations in Moscow he intends to focus on the need to activate Russia's role in the region and bolster economic, military and political cooperation between the two countries.

Besides, the former prime minister noted that he will discuss deliveries of the Russian arms of the Iraqi army.

During negotiations in Moscow, Maliki said that intends to focus on activation of the economic relations in fields of the electric power and trade. https://www.thebaghdadpost.com/en/sto...ia#section_235
