Saudi Arabia unprecedentedly ready to support Iraq – official

Saudi Arabia is unuprecedently ready to support Iraq and entrench its political decision, a prominent official in Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi's office revealed on Thursday.

In press statements to al-Arab newspaper, published in London, the official said that this summer will see intensive visits between Iraqi officials and their counterparts in many Arab countries, with Saudi Arabia topping the list.

During the forthcoming visits, the Iraqi and Saudi sides will address security and economic issues, the official added.

Hesham al-Hashimi, security affairs analyst, said that Mosul's victory had revived Arab countries' trust in Iraq and its efforts to counter terrorism.

He noted that Iraq, in post-Mosul liberation stage, needs to confirm its military victory by entering into regional, Arab and international alliances to exchange intelligence on terrorist groups.

Al-Hashimi added that neighboring countries also need to benefit from the Iraqi experience to protect their territories against the emergence of ISIS arms.

On Thursday, Chief of Staff (CoS) of the Saudi Armed Forces General Abdul Rahman bin Saleh arrived in Iraq.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman met with Iraqi Interior Minister Qasim al-Araji and his delegation on Tuesday evening in Saudi Arabia.
