Iraq pays $ 500 million in debt to Iran

Assistant Secretary of Energy for Electricity Hoshenk Falahtian, announced on Monday that Iraq has paid 500 million dollars of its debts related to the purchase of electricity from Iran.
“The pace of repayment of Iraq’s debt to Iran has improved and the Iraqi side promised during the last round of talks that it will pay a new batch of these debts within the next two weeks,” Falahtian said in an interview.
He pointed to the continued export of electricity to Iraq, adding that Iraq has paid 500 million dollars of debt owed to Iran during the past four months, while remaining 800 million dollars of these debts.
Iran is sharing electricity with the republics of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Nakhkwan and exports to Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq.
