The Ministry of Agriculture confirmed Wednesday that Nineveh will return to its full capacity of wheat and barley crops during the 2017-2018 agricultural season.

"The ministry has an integrated plan for the return of Nineveh to produce wheat and barley crops after recovering from the control of the terrorist organization," said the technical agent of the Ministry of Agriculture Mahdi al-Qaisi in an exclusive interview.

"The ministry is seeking self-sufficiency for wheat crop during Next years".
"The province is covering 40 percent according to the agricultural plan and the water quota, which is a very large percentage of the total Iraqi output," Qaisi said, adding that "the ministry has started plans for the reconstruction and development of livestock and will be an important and influential extension of the food security of the citizen."

He noted that "it was decided to include the province of Nineveh within the national program for the development of wheat cultivation in Iraq, which includes the implementation of a plan for the future development of wheat crop."

The Ministry of Agriculture said on Tuesday that Iraq has lost one million tons of wheat in the province of Nineveh because of "urging", indicating that the province covers 40% of the country's production.
