Coalition Members to Discuss Support for Iraq After IS

A meeting of the Global Coalition to Counter the Islamic State (IS) will be hosted next week, in order for member states to discuss means of supporting Iraq after the defeat of the extremist group.

Brett McGurk, US Special Presidential Envoy for the Coalition, said during a conference in Baghdad on Saturday, that all member states of the US-led coalition will attend the meeting, aiming to discuss the future restoration of Iraq, following the termination of IS.

McGurk, explained that stability will be the hardest thing to be achieved, as it will not come after defeating IS, but after defeating the ideology of the extremist group.

He explained that what Washington wants is to see Iraq united and prosperous, with all local communities living in a stable environment, Kuwait Mews Agency reported.

However, when asked about the upcoming independence referendum in the Kurdistan Region, McGurk said Washington was encouraging the Kurds and the Iraqi government in Baghdad to engage in a dialogue based on the Iraqi constitution.
