Parliament labels ISIS' crimes against Iraqi people as genocide


The Iraqi Council of Representative has voted in its second ordinary session of the first legislative term, chaired by Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri and attended by 219 MPs, on labeling the crimes committed by ISIS against the Iraqi people as genocide, parliament media office revealed in a statement on Friday.

It noted that the parliament has voted on a resolution to consider Euphrates neighborhood in Nineveh a disaster area.

The parliament voted on labeling ISIS' killing of Badoush prison inmates, over 1,500 people in Camp Speicher and members of Albu Nimr, al-Jabour, al-Laheeb and al-Ubaid tribes as genocide and crimes against humanity, the statement read.

It added that the resolution also included other crimes committed by ISIS such as killing and expelling Kurdish, Christian, Yazidi, Shabak and Turkmen civilians in Nineveh Valley, Sinjar, Tal Afar and Bashir.
