Barzani: No return on the establishment of an independent Kurdish state

The President of the Kurdistan Region, Massoud Barzani, on Thursday, he did not retreat from efforts to establish an independent Kurdish state, pointing to achieve this through dialogue with the Iraqi government and regional countries.

Barzani said in an interview with Reuters: "There is no return from the efforts to establish an independent Kurdish state," adding that he would seek to "achieve this through dialogue with Baghdad and regional powers to avoid conflict."

"The timetable for independence after the referendum on September 25 is flexible but not unlimited," he said, likely to vote yes in the referendum.

The political parties met on June 7 under the chairmanship of President of the Kurdistan Region, Massoud Barzani, and set the twenty-fifth of September next date for the referendum on self-determination of the region.
