Iraq loses over $250 bn due to corruption, shady deals

Iraq loses over $250 bn due to endemic corruption in government institutions and shady deals made by officials, informed press sources revealed on Sunday.

The sources said that Council of Ministers' Secretariat are considered the most dangerous hotbed of corruption in Iraq while the Ministry of Defense was ranked high among other ministries in regard to corruption.

Financial and administrative corruption is an obstacle that affects the quality of public services and hinders the Iraq's economic and social progress.

Last month, Haider al-Abadi's government was accused of squandering all of the Iraqi state budget of 2016.

It was claimed that the government spent over 58 million dollars on private sector companies and hasn't disclosed the reasons behind this spending yet.
