Peshmerga Troop Killed by IS Sniper in Tuz Khurmatu


TUZ KHURMATU —

A Peshmerga fighter was killed on Friday by an Islamic State (IS) sniper in the vicinity of Tuz Khurmatu city in south of Kikruk province.

A Peshmerga troop from Regiment 2 of Brigade 11 of the Peshmerga forces, named Awni Maghdid Rasul, was hit by an IS sniper on Peshmerga front line in Zarga village in southern Tuz Khurmatu.


According to Peshmerga sources, the soldier was killed while the Peshmerga forces were digging security trenches in the area, aiming at preventing the potential attacks of the militants who periodically organise offensives against Peshmerga in the area.


The IS militants have carried out several attacks against the Peshmerga forces in southern Tuz Khurmatu areas over the past month.
