Despite repeated denials, Iran's Larijani admits intervention in Iraq

Iran's Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani confessed his country's militias had intervened in Iraq's internal affairs.

In an interview with CNN, Larijani said ISIS terror group would have captured Baghdad without the Shiite country's support.

"Had we not assisted them, Baghdad would have been occupied by ISIS. It is with the help of Iran that Daesh, ISIS, is on its last breath in Iraq (and Syria)," Larijani said.

Iran has deployed thousands of militants to Iraq to increase their influence in the neighboring Arab country.

Senior politicians in the Iraqi government are loyal to Tehran and carry out its agenda in the region.
Iranian militias have also been deployed to other Arab countries including Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Bahrain.

Larijani's confession comes amid recurrent denials from both Iranian and Iraqi officials that Tehran has no role in the Iraqi scene.
