Federal Police control 70% of Mosul's Old City

Four units of Iraq's Federal Police have controlled 70 percent of the Old City, inflicting heavy losses on the terrorist group, confirming killing 63 terrorists, including five commanders, Raed Shaker Jawdat, commander of the Federal Police revealed on Wednesday.

In a statement, Jawdat said the forces have proceeded to the center of Mosul's Old City, heading towards districts of Bab al-Toub, al-Sirgkhana, Bab Jadid and Bab Laksh, Raed Shaker Jawdat.

This move aims at controlling these districts and expelling terrorist groups from them.

He also pointed out that Federal Police units stationed in south of the Old City are advancing into the district from three axes heading towards its targets, noting that they were backed by the Iraqi air force strikes.

He stated that there are heavy clashed between the forces and ISIS terrorists whose number is estimated at 300.

The forces destroyed 14 booby-trapped bikes, 52 explosive devices and six ISIS barracks, he noted, adding that the forces also confiscated explosive belts and heavy weaponry as well as seizing a projectiles' depot.

Jawdat pointed out that there are up to 5,000 civilians held hostage by ISIS and the police forces are heroically fighting the group's terrorists to rescue them.

It is estimated that there are a few of ISIS terrorists left in Mosul, the second largest city of Iraq. It is expected that they will desperately defend the last pocket of the city that has been once their main stronghold in Iraq.
