Kurdish MP Responds to Expelling Threats against Kurds in Baghdad

ERBIL—
The threats by a member of Bagdad Provincial Council against Kurds who reside in Baghdad does not represent the position of the Iraqi government, said a Kurdish lawmaker to the Iraqi House of Representatives.

Tareq Gardi responded to Saad al-Mutlabi's comments who threatened that after the Kurdistan Region carried out its due referendum on independence, Kurds in Baghdad will be expelled from the city and their Iraqi nationality will be annulled.

"This is neither our position nor that of Baghdad Council as all the components of Iraq are dwelling in the city under law ," Gardi told BasNews on Thursday, "We disregard such comments."

"If they believe in democracy, they should also believe in referendum, otherwise, with or without referendum, they (Baghdad officials) won't change their position," the MP remarked.
