UN considers means to return displaced Iraqis home

The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) is currently considering means of returning displaced people to their homes after the liberation of Mosul from the grip of ISIS terror group, a UN official said Wednesday.

"The United Nations will return the displaced people to their homes after the liberation of Mosul," the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) said in a statement, quoting head of the agency's representative for Middle East and North Africa, Amin Awad, during a meeting with Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) President Nechervan Barzani.

Awad praised the efforts of the KRG to shelter thousands of displaced people and refugees, pledging efforts to mobilize international support for the KRG to provide more support in this area.

Barzani said that the shelter of displaced people and refugees exceeded the capacity of the provincial government, calling on international organizations to exert efforts to provide necessary support to the provincial government in order to provide the best services for the displaced.

Referring to the return of displaced people to their areas, Barzani stressed the importance of establishing security in the liberated areas as well as restoring confidence among the people before their return.

Awad and his accompanying delegation visited displacement camps to learn about the situation of the displaced and how to solve their problems.
