Iraq plans to join the Asian Investment Bank in infrastructure

Iraq plans to join the Asian Investment Bank in infrastructure, the foreign ministry said Wednesday, adding that the bank's president welcomed the move.

"The ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to South Korea, Wadih Bitti Hanna, participated in the second annual meeting of the Asian Investment Bank for Infrastructure (AIIB) held in Jeju, Korea," the ministry said in a statement.

"Iraq participated as an observer in this meeting, which was opened by the President of Korea (Monjen) and attended by hundreds of official figures and representatives of financial and banking institutions, civil society organizations and companies concerned."
She noted that "the ambassador met on the sidelines of the meeting, the President of the Bank (Jin Liqun), confirming the desire of Iraq to join the bank after the completion of official procedures for that," while the President of the Bank welcomed the move.
