The Ministry of Agriculture invites Turkey to receive surplus Iraqi dates in its markets


The Ministry of Agriculture on Thursday called on Turkey to receive surplus Iraqi dates in its markets, noting that the development of the agricultural sector is a priority by finding ways to support these products.
Agriculture Minister Falah Hassan Zaidan expressed his hope during his meeting with the Turkish ambassador in Baghdad, Faleh Yalden, that the Turkish companies are active in receiving Iraqi dates, noting that Iraq has surplus dates for export.
He added that this is in order to enhance the economic value of Iraqi dates and our national economy and that these dates come out on behalf of an Iraqi through their export to Turkey or any other country, adding that the ministry is seeking to find marketing outlets commensurate with the value of this crop.
Al-Qaisi said the ministry’s mission is to develop the agricultural sector by finding ways to support these agricultural products.
In August 2008, the Iraqi government launched a comprehensive initiative to improve the country’s agricultural reality and set a 10-year timeline for Iraq to attain self-sufficiency in strategic crops.
The initiative includes supporting farmers with seeds, fertilizers and agricultural pesticides, reclaiming lands and guaranteeing the purchase of strategic crops at market prices, in addition to allocating various lending funds, including the new and existing palm development fund, the modern irrigation technology fund, the livestock fund and the strategic projects support fund.
