We Support Inclusion of Kirkuk in Independence Referendum: Governor

Najmadin Karim, the Governor of Kirkuk province, said they support both the Kurdistan Region independence referendum and the decision to include Kirkuk in the process.

“We support the referendum, and we also support the inclusion of Kirkuk in the referendum,” Karim said in a statement on Sunday during a meeting with a Swedish delegation.

Karim explained that the Iraqi government has evaded the implementation of article 140 from the Iraqi constitution which provides ultimate solutions to the issues facing the province.

Kirkuk Governor said Jalal Talabani, Secretary General of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and former Iraqi President, has always viewed Kirkuk as the centre of struggles against the Iraqi dictator regimes.

Kurdistan Region has planned to hold a plebiscite on the region’s independence this year on September 25th which will cover Kurdish areas outside the administration of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
