IS Abducts 60 Families in Shifa District, West Mosul


the Islamic State (IS) militants abducted on Sunday 60 families from Shifa neighbourhood in west Mosul where fierce clashes are ongoing between the Iraqi forces and the the militants.

Colonel Khudair Saleh, an officer from the Iraqi federal police, told BasNews that the IS militants abducted 60 families in Shifa while retreating from some areas of the neighbourhood.

He added that the militants took those families to the Old City district and prevented them from fleeing to the areas controlled by the Iraqi army.

The official said "the federal forces have besieged Shifa district from all fronts and killed 27 IS militants inside the area during the ongoing clashes between the two sides."

Hundreds of civilians have reportedly been killed either during the operations or while they were trying to flee their homes in west Mosul.
