Iraqi Forces Declare Control over Zanjili District in Mosul

MOSUL —
Iraqi army declared Zanjili district in west Mosul free on Saturday.

Iraqi military, backed by US-led coalition, completely recaptured Zanjili district in western part of Mosul on Saturday.

By liberating Zanjili neighbourhood, only one district remains under control of the militants in Mosul which is the Old City neighborhood.

The troops also continue to evacuate civilians fleeing al-Shifa neighborhood where the fight is ongoing and it is the last remaining area near the Old City.

The operation to oust the IS militants from Mosul began on October 17, 2016. Three months after the commencement of the operation, the eastern half of the city was declared liberated.

The operation advanced into the western half in February of this year.
