Iraqi Market Bombing Kills 30
A woman detonated her explosive belt in a market east of the Shia holy city of Karbala on Friday, killing at least 30 and wounding 35, Iraqi security sources said.

A security officer said the assailant was a woman who hid the bomb und
er the customary full-body veil, Reuters reported.

The attack comes as the self-styled Islamic State terrorist group is about to lose Mosul, the de-facto capital of the militant group in Iraq, to a US-backed Iraqi offensive launched in October.

The group is also on the backfoot in neighboring Syria, retreating in the face of a US-backed Kurdish-led coalition attacking its capital there, Raqqa.

Iranian advisors are guiding the campaign against IS in Iraq, attacking the group in the border region near Syria.

IS declared a self-styled “caliphate” over parts of Syria and Iraq three years ago.

Twin suicide bombs in Tehran, the car-ramming and stabbings in London Bridge and the Baghdad ice cream shop have all been claimed by IS, as well as the attack on an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester on 22 May.

The terrorist group continues to lose control of territory across Syria and Iraq in the face of international operations to destroy its so-called caliphate.

Experts believe it will increasingly turn toward insurgency and terror tactics around the world to prove its legitimacy.
