France Supports Right of Kurds for Wishing Independence: Diplomat

Former French Consul General in Erbil, Frédéric Tissot, said on Friday that his country supports the right of Kurds for wishing an independent Kurdistan.

“Basically Kurds [in] Iraq have the right to express their wish for independence. At least that France supports this right,” Tissot said on his official twitter account.

Earlier on Wednesday Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani announced, after a multilateral meeting with the Kurdish political parties, the independence referendum to be held on 25th September.

Even though some neighbouring countries suggested that the move may result in further complexities in an already-complex Iraq, no official oppositions have been made against the decision.
