UN Mission reiterates support for Iraq in war against terrorism

Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq Jan Kubis reiterated on Friday the international organization's support for Iraq in its war against terrorism during a meeting with Prime Minister Hiader al-Abadi.

Iraqi Prime Minister has discussed with Kubis the situation for displaced people and UN contribution to stabilization process in the liberated districts, Abadi's media office said in a statement.

It added that, during the meeting with Abadi, the head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq also hailed the victories Iraq achieved against terrorism.

UN humanitarian agencies revealed on Thursday that more than 8,400 people have been displaced from western Mosul over the past two days.

There are concerns over the protection of civilians in ISIS-controlled areas of western Mosul, where more than 100,000 people are believed to remain in Mosul's Old City and northern neighborhoods.

United Nations Human Rights Office noted recently that reports have revealed there is a significant increase in the number of Iraqi civilians killed by ISIS terrorists while fleeing Mosul.

Iraqi forces have been battling to liberate western Mosul from the hands of the extremist group, as part of an overall offensive in the northern city which began last October.
