Iraqi Forces to Declare Control over Zanjili District in Mosul

A federal police officer said on Wednesday that about 95 percent of al-Zanjili, the last biggest IS stronghold in west Mosul has been liberated.

"The federal forces are about to liberate al-Zanjili district completely after they have gained control of about 95 percent of the district," Major Daham al-Hayali, a federal police officer, told BasNews.

Al-Hayali added that the Iraqi forces are pushing simultaneously towards al-Shifa neighbourhood.

The operation to oust the IS militants from Mosul began on October 17, 2016. Three months after the commencement of the operation, the eastern half of the city was declared liberated. The operation advanced into the western half in February of this year.
