Over 500 IDPs Arrive at Peshmerga Frontline near Mosul Dam



ERBIL — Fearing intensified military clashes, hundreds of civilians on Tuesday escaped their homes in the suburb of Tel Afar, seeking refuge in the areas under the control of the Kurdish Peshmerga forces.

The new wave of displacement comes from several villages in north of Tel Afar, some 63 kilometres west of Mosul, said Peshmerga commander Haji Khidr.The Kurdish forces in Mosul Dam frontline have so far taken over 500 new IDPs, including a large number of women and children.

“Following the new military operations by the [Shi’ite militias] of Hashd al-Shaabi in Sinjar region, civilians fear the imminent war in their areas, therefore, they escape,” Khidr said.With the Hashd al-Shaabi operations continuing around Tel Afar and Sinjar, Khidr says more civilians are expected to be displaced in the upcoming weeks.
