US rejects Kurdistan region independence referendum, says diplomat
Iraqi former ambassador to Washington Lukman al-Faily said Saturday the US rejects a forthcoming referendum on Kurdistan region independence.
Al-Faily said that US officials had informed Kurdish high level officials that a unified Iraq would lead to stability in the Middle East, and the US wants to keep it unified.
Kurdistan President Massoud Barzani announced earlier this year a referendum on the region's independence would be held by the end of the current year.
