US airstrikes kill dozens IMIS-linked militias on Iraqi-Syrian borders
US warplanes have bombed forces affiliated with Iranian Militias in Iraq and Syria (IMIS) in Albu Kamal district, close to Iraqi-Syrian border, killing dozens of them, Abu Alaa al-Wa'eli, secretary general of Martyrs of Sayyid Battalions, or Kata'ib Sayyid al-Shuhada (KSS), announced on Friday.
In a press statement, al-Wa'eli said that US warplanes had bombed Thursday night Kata'ib Sayyid al-Shuhada, affiliated with IMIS, at Albu Kamal border crossing near the Iraqi-Syrian border.
He did not provide further details.
KSS are an Iraqi Shiite militia formed in 2013 allegedly to protect Shiite shrines across the globe.
It militarily supports al-Assad government in Syria and it has close ties to the Shiite Badr Organization.
