US Combat Troops Will Not Stay in Iraq after IS: Abadi

Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi stated on Friday that no US combat troops will remain in Iraq after the conclusion of the battle against the Islamic State (IS), the AP reported.

Abdi's statement came in response to an earlier report by the AP which indicated for their mutual interests, both Iraq and the US are involved in talks over prolonging the US military presence in Iraq after the IS.

Iraqi PM stated the US troops will continue their role as "advisors" to assist the Iraqi forces "maintain full readiness for any future security challenges."
