According to commercial sources, Russia's Rosneft will buy its first oil shipments from the Kurdistan region of Iraq early April to become the first major oil company to get Kurdish crude directly for the refining system.

The cargo carrier, Minerva Sofia, will sail from the Turkish port of Ceyhan to the Italian port of Trieste, where crude can be transported through a pipeline to Rosneft refineries in Germany.

In February, Rosneft signed an agreement with the semi-autonomous region for pre-financing crude exports.

The deal is the first direct sale of a major refinery and opens the door for others to start buying Iraqi Kurdistan oil directly, the region said.
