The Parliamentary Service Commission, Monday, it had agreed with the Finance Ministry and the Ministry of Transportation to allocate $ 400 million to implement the first stages of the port of Faw.

Said Ahsan al-Awadi told the Kurdish news agency (Rn) that "the parliamentary services committee agreed at an emergency meeting with the Finance Ministry and the Ministry of Transportation to allocate $ 400 million to implement the early stages to establish a port of Faw."

He added that he "has been allocated $ 140 million for the purchase and installation of breakwaters and the remaining amount for the purchase of two drilling rigs to construct two large stream of water from the Khawr Abd Allah al-Faw to a length of 18 kilo meters and carry out maintenance work and rehabilitation of the land of the port."

He pointed out that "Italian companies will give Iraq the initial designs for the establishment of the port in the middle of next year and will update it once at the end of next year."

The Ministry of Transport has announced that it will begin the work of marine survey of the port of Faw during the next few days.

It is expected that FAO has a port for containers on the quay length of 39,000 m and pavement along the last 2000, as well as the container yard has an area of ​​more than one million m 2 and the field of multi-purpose area of ​​600 thousand m 2.

The port capacity 99 million tonnes annually, with total cost for the establishment of four billion and 400 million euros.

Iraq says that the port will change the map of world maritime transport of goods being transferred from Japan, China and South East Asia to Europe via Iraq.
