For his part, Mohamed Chihod, a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Water in the Iraqi parliament, said in a press statement, "The FAO project is very important to revitalize the ailing agricultural situation in the country."

Chihod He added, "The agricultural situation passiveness in the general areas of Iraq, and did not get in there and clear the advancement of this sector despite the availability of possibilities, so it is important that the FAO is implementing the so large project, but that includes all parts of Iraq."

He pointed out that "there are thousands of hectares of arable land, but it is not used in the provinces of the south, and requires the support of a class of peasants, and that of concerned organizations, including FAO, to start its use for agriculture."
