The director of agricultural services at the Ministry of Agriculture, Kamel Mohammed, told the network Roudao media, "Our goal from the decision to ban the import of maize to the Kurdistan Region is to support the local crop, and so moving farmers to plant corn, but the lack of government purchase of their product, paying peasants to get away from corn, which is of high nutritional value planting material. "
In the same context, one of the owners said feed production plants, that "feed plants in the Kurdistan region is the need 400 tons of corn annually, 30,000 tons is just from domestic production, while the rest are imported from abroad."
The Iraqi government has been buying a ton of $ 430 thousand dinars, but it is relying on the support funds paid out of the territory allocated to the budget, amounting to 17% of the general budget.
According to agricultural experts, the cultivation of maize dunum needs about 200 thousand dinars, and if provided good services to this area is possible to harvest 2 - 3.5 tons of corn.
