United Nations: Iraq ratified the Convention to end discrimination against women and support remedies

Secretary-General's Envoy to the United Nations in Iraq Jan Kubiš, Saturday, that "Iraq has ratified a special Convention to end discrimination among women and other conventions include support remedies."

Kubiš, said during his speech at the annual Convention to combat violence against women, which was held in the Office of the President of the National Alliance, Ammar al-Hakim in Baghdad, "Iraq ratified the Convention on ending discrimination against women, approved the joint memorandum of cooperation with women victims of violence in war", noting that "the implementation of these conventions would meet ISIS crimes, this includes support for women for damages."

He need to accountability of terrorist crimes, ISIS gangs against women in areas under their control, as "crimes against humanity", adding that "the people of Iraq fighting for humanitarian values shared by all the world and against the ideas of Atonement and its spread in the world, and now stand together with those who bad treatment of women and children and their families."

He noted that "women are always the first victims of war, and for ISIS there must be accountability for crimes against humanity, particularly those affecting girls and women and children, were the first victims of these crimes".

"The communities of tribal leaders, clerics and civil society organizations should have a key role in standing up against violence against women"

He explained, "the UN Secretary General said recently that violence against women continued, and cannot pretend we progress towards equality", pointing out that "violence against women makes women powerless to reach their potential impact on economic growth and social development."

And the need to protect women, this is central to peace and justice and that includes representation of women must be represented in politics, there to be involved in economic matters and shall assist them in the liberated areas and help women in the health aspect, the police and the judiciary and institutes that will guarantee them representation which helps in the reduction of violence against women. "
