Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah will visit Iraq by the end of this year to discuss the ongoing issues between the two countries, said Kuwait's ambassador to Baghdad.

Ali al-Mo'men's announcement was made during a press conference yesterday in Karbala. Mo'men said: "The Kuwaiti government will work to improve the relations with Iraq and restore them to the era before 1980 when Iraqis entered Kuwait without visas."

He added that the Iraqi people are not to blame for what the former regime did.

"The Emir of Kuwait will pay a visit to Baghdad in the last quarter of 2012 to discuss a number of suspended issues with Iraq which may lead the United Nations to lift the sanctions on Iraq as it has done with dues to its neighbor Kuwait," added Mo'men.

The ambassador was accompanied by a number of Kuwaiti investors and Kuwaiti National Council members as well as 20 journalists from his country.

In another part of his statements, the ambassador said his country wishes to invest in Karbala, Najaf and Basra provinces in the same way the country invests in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

As for the issue of the demarcation of borders with Iraq, Mo'men said his country is not working on this issue as hard as it is working on rebuilding good relations with Iraq.

Karbala Governor Amaladdin al-Har hailed the first official visit of an official Kuwaiti delegation to Karbala after 20 years as a "real opportunity for Kuwaiti companies to explore the area as Iraq is opening up to its neighbor Kuwait".
