NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced that the alliance does not intend to participate in combat operations against Daesh terrorist gangs.

He told reporters before the start of the private International Conference on Afghanistan in Brussels that NATO train troops fighting Daesh will enhance it later because it is better in the long run, that the Iraqi forces are able on their own to address Daesh instead of doing the NATO operations.

The alliance has declared many times that it does not intend to participate in combat operations against Daesh in Syria and Iraq but supports the international coalition efforts led by the United States, including through the provision of "AWACS" early warning aircraft, which will monitor the situation in Syria, without entering into its airspace.
