The Security Council held a private meeting on the situation in Iraq

The UN Security Council is planned at UN headquarters in New York City, Friday, a session on the situation in Iraq.

The United Nations Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) in an official statement that "the United Nations Security Council will hold a session dealing with the situation in Iraq, Friday, 10:00 a.m., New York time, 5 p.m. Baghdad time.


The mission said, "it is expected that the Secretary-General's Special Representative to the United Nations in Iraq, Jan Kubiš, briefed shortly after the start of the meeting.


The United Nations had earlier renewed its support for the efforts of the Iraqi Government in eliminating "ISIS", asserting that the international coalition will mark "an important breakthrough" in support of Iraq and humanitarian relief to displaced people and restore stability in the liberated areas and begin reconstruction.
