The Security Council "shocked and angry" because of the fighting in southern Sudan

07/11/2016
The UN Security Council called on the two rival factions in the State of South Sudan to end the fighting and prevent widespread violence.
In a statement issued unanimously by the Member States, the Council condemned " in the strongest terms" the fighting and expressed "shock and anger in particular , " because of attacks on United Nations positions.
New fighting erupted Sunday in Juba, the capital of the Republic of South Sudan, between forces loyal to President Salva Kiir and those loyal to his deputy Riek Machar, which caused many casualties.
The Council also called for more peacekeeping troops to deal with the current situation in southern Sudan.
The statement came after a meeting of the Council called for by the United States to discuss the situation in southern Sudan.

Reports say hundreds were killed in clashes between rival groups since Friday.
