UN urges Iraqi political leaders to restore security and dialogue

The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) for grave concern about the developments in Baghdad, on the thirtieth of April, including the storming of the parliament building by protesters after they entered the Green Zone.

And condemned the mission, said in a statement it issued, the use of violence, including those targeting elected officials, and urged calm the situation, restraint and respect for Iraq's democratic institutions at this critical juncture, calling on the government and all political leaders and civil society leaders to work together to establish security in a manner immediate, and to engage in a dialogue that would ensure implementation needed to pull Iraq from the political, economic and security crisis reforms.

The statement said that the United Nations will continue to operate from within its headquarters in Baghdad's Green Zone, which is in constant contact with the parties concerned to facilitate access to a solution that meets the people's demands for reform
