Chairman of the Legal Committee Mahmoud Hassan to discuss with the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary General Amnesty Law

Chairman of the Legal Committee of Parliament MP Mahmoud Hassan received today Monday, 03/14/2016, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General at the United Nations, George Posten and his accompanying delegation.
The two sides discussed during the meeting, which was held in the Legal Committee of the Council of the amnesty law and the obstacles that hinder the legislation, particularly the political consensus and the intersection in the opinions that are delaying the enactment of the law and reconciliation as well as procedural and technical aspects required by law in terms of law enforcement retrial, and Maamu verdicts of arbitrariness by the extract confessions and torture during the investigation, which is contrary to the law, in addition to the possibility of re-investigation in accordance with the mechanics and the foundations of considering them the concerned authorities and the legal order the return of the incline to the ranks of society and the inclusion of the worth of this amnesty as well as the exceptions contained a general amnesty law in order to serve the criminal justice and the common good to get to solutions to the enactment of this Act and restore community cohesion.
For his part, the representative of the UN special envoy in Iraq, said the UN-party neutral and committed to the UN Charter and its principles.
He said that "Iraq has witnessed crimes and terrorist acts of unspeakable affront to humanity, and it is not impossible to find common ground to reach an acceptable exit this law to light and to isolate those who want to impede solutions, pointing out the importance of knowing Notes everyone on judicial mistakes and investigative process unfair trials, arbitrary arrests which caused mistakes had been made and innocent people in prisons, stressing that the United Nations is keen on the unity of the fabric of the Iraqi people, especially as the general amnesty law one of the solutions in this direction.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue meetings to discuss ways to support the Iraqi judiciary and the development of cadres as well as continue to explore any update on the amnesty law with the Presidency and the Legal Committee in the House of Representatives.
