International community welcomes the victory of Iraqi army in Ramadi city

Shafaq News / Regaining Ramadi city from ISIS organization by the Iraqi army has been welcomed by the international community.

The US Secretary of Defense , Ashton Carter praised, the Iraqi government on the progress made in regaining control of Ramadi city, after Iraqi forces announced earlier controlling the city.

Carter said in a statement that "the expulsion of the elements of the Islamic state by the Iraqi security forces is a major step forward in the campaign to defeat this barbaric organization."

"It is now important that the Iraqi government seize the opportunity to save the peace in Ramadi and prevent the return of ISIS and other extremists and facilitate the return of citizens to city Ramadi."

ISIS organization took over Ramadi, capital of Anbar province in the west of the country in May . controlling it is an important achievement for the Iraqi army, which collapsed when ISIS fighters swept through large areas in Iraq in June 2014.

British Foreign Secretary , Philip Hammond also congratulated the Iraqi government and said in a statement: "This is one in a series of large ISIS losses. These terrorists have lost 30 percent of the territory they controlled in Iraq."

"We will continue to support the Iraqi government in its efforts to restore security and governance and (insure) services needed by the population of Ramadi when they return to their city, he added.

The French President , Francois Hollande considered the restoration of Iraqi forces to Ramadi city, west of Baghdad, as an "most important victory" even today in response to the Islamic state organization.

The German Foreign Minister , Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that the achievements of the Iraqi forces, "shows once again the possibility of overcoming the Islamic state organization."

Final victory

Iraqi Prime Minister , Haider al-Abadi pledged that 2016 will witness the final victory over the "Islamic state" in Iraq. "

This came in a speech broadcasted on Iraqi television after the declaration of the Iraqi army on its control on Ramadi city west of the country from ISIS.

Abadi said, "If 2015 was the liberation year then 2016 will be the final year of victory and end the presence of ISIS on the land of Iraq, the land of Mesopotamia."
