Prosecutors say Kenneth Apple of Beaverton, Oregon, helped steer contracts to a company in which his son, Jonathan Apple, owned half interest.
Jonathan Apple of Williston, North Dakota, pleaded guilty last month to conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
Prosecutors say Kenneth Apple, who served as an agricultural adviser in Iraq from 2009 to 2011, conspired to use his official position to pass on nonpublic information to his son. They say the conspirators also provided false information and concealed material details from the government.
A federal public defender representing Kenneth Apple did not return a telephone call Friday evening.
